The COVID 19 pandemic has punched the education sector harder too where schools and universities around the world are forced to adopt online learning. Hundreds to thousands of teachers are busy working to move from face to to face lessons online. This might through delivering lessons using virtual classrooms or providing online self study material for students. This effort is taken to protects public from this catastrophic consequence of the virus and yet maintaining the education programme running parallel while constrained at home. Undeniablely,online lesson are helpful in may ways as listed below:
- staying safe from the infection
- continuity in delivering the syllbus
- through lesson plan inspired the teacher to improve the lesson further
- a student may seek assistance from parents in a more closer proximity
- enable both parents and teacher earn the knowledge of using technology to power the education
- the emergence of various bussiness strategist to invent or modulate online lesson which directly enhance economical status of an institution
- parents are little convinced over their children's education despite requires their assistance to work this method
- enable adults to split their time for work,study and personal matters without much hassle
However, as always emphasize that everything has pros and cons too.A skewed focus may distort the real image on what is really happening due to this online classes as mentioned below:
- a student may find difficult to follow or adapt to the situation could be due to lack of assistance,shy to communicate and hassleful to understand the lesson
- lack of support or assistance by parents
- student get diverted to the inappropriate channels or webs
- teachers may find it burdensome from planning ,scheduling and teaching
- handling student or parent with lack of motivation may create a stressful scenario to the teacher
- lack of facilities may impair the convenience of studying using the help of technology
- the surge of online course fees for adult learning which might put some adults totally out of the intention to pursue them
A new flashed about few days ago which happened in South India,a teenager committed suicide due to online lessons. She is well equipped with the basic needs to undergo online lessons at home.However,she had complained to her mother several time that she worries about the online lesson,unable to understand them well and afraid that she might get missed out. Both her parents are illiterate and does odd jobs so all they could do was assure her and hunt for their financial stability. The teenager took a drastic decision to hang herself at home which found in critical situation while rushed to hospital but unfortunately she died while in the ambulance. It is really disheartening to aware that this could even happen with online lesson which thought to offer good then harm. If every issues has pros and cons,then it should have solution for he cons too as listed below:
- parents should monitor the student progress closely whenever possible and take their concern seriously
- also parents should to teach their kids regarding the current situation and ways to to adapt
- the need to upgrade is there for teachers but they should look this situation as an opportunity to deliver the lesson in more productive manner
- the teacher should give some loosening over students who are affordable to reach out technology for online lessons ,so the teacher may find other alternatives to approach them in a safer manner
- online course provider should be sensitive over fees as it may burden the learner and withdraw completely
The online lesson is definitely a big help at this moment where the learners get to learn at their own rhythm provided the issues due this are fixed and the correct course of action. So the government authority,educator ,parents and student should take up their roles very well to adapt to this'new norm'.
