Gadgeting:Forgotten Pager

 

The forgotten gadget which was widely used by our father and uncles is no longer a familiar one to many of us especially to the younger generations,who totally clueless about this little handheld device called pager. Those days when the android phone yet to make the entry, people mostly depends on the walkie talkies, public booth and landlines. So this pager is a device to send a short message by making a call to a messenger where they will help you to convert them into short digital messages to the receiver. There will a small charge imposed on the sender for this service. Looking at the device,it  is usually small or handheld, measures about 8-10cm in length,  black in colour, a digital screen, basic buttons and sometimes a hook to hang over your pocket or bag. It cost about RM200-RM300 and mostly manufactured by Nokia Telecommunication company. It was widely used during the 90s because much convenient compared to the other telecommunication devices during that period of time. However, the sender would be able to send a short message only such as Call Me, Good Morning, Where Are You, Are You Ok etc. These gadgets rapidly faced downturn when smartphones bloomed the market.Pager do suffer extinction due to the smartphones but there is still some usage now in certain commercial industries.We still may opt to use them now like letting our children use them in the event of emergency.
